Common Name: TEAD4 Type: Gene
Chromosome: 12 (NC_000012.12) Locus: NG_029958.1 (TEAD4)
HUGO Symbol: TEAD4 Full Name: TEA domain transcription factor 4
Exons: 13 Introns: 12

Description:
The TEAD4 gene product is a member of the transcriptional enhancer factor (TEF) family of transcription factors, which contain the TEA/ATTS DNA-binding domain. The expression of TEAD4 negative correlates with haemoglobin F (HbF) expression in beta-thalassaemia patients. Functional studies identified a TEAD4 binding motif on the γ-globin gene promoters. The disruption of this motif associated with de-repression of HbF in both β-thalassaemia CD34+ cells and HUDEP-2 cells. TEAD4 functions as a potential regulator of HbF and a candidate therapeutic option for patients with beta-haemoglobinopathies.
