Description:
The NBAS gene encodes a protein, originally identified in neuroblastoma cells, that is thought to function as a component of an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) tethering complex involved in the Golgi–ER retrograde transport of vesicles. Genetic variance in NBAS associated with increased risk for red blood cell alloimmunization in transfused patients with sickle cell disease.
