Names

Common Name: MED27 Type: Gene
Chromosome: 9 (NC_000009.12) Locus: NM_004269.4 (MED27)
HUGO Symbol: MED27 Full Name: mediator complex subunit 27
Exons: 8 Introns: 7

Description:
The MED27 gene encodes a component of the mediator complex, a coactivator involved in the regulated transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and serves as a scaffold for the assembly of a functional preinitiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors. Genetic variance in MED27 associated with F-cell levels in sickle cell anaemia.
