Names

Common Name: JUN Type: Gene
Chromosome: 1 (NC_000001.11) Locus: NG_047027.1 (JUN)
HUGO Symbol: JUN Full Name: Jun proto-oncogene, AP-1 transcription factor subunit
Exons: 1 Introns: 0

Description:
The oncogene JUN is the putative transforming gene of avian sarcoma virus 17; it appears to be derived from a gene of the chicken genome and has homologs in several other vertebrate species. A series of experiments demonstrated that JUN activates the Gγ-globin gene via binding to the upstream Gγ-globin gene cAMP response element (G-CRE) in a manner comparable to CREB [GeneID: 385] and ATF-2 [GeneID: 387]. JUN binds the G-CRE as a heterodimer with ATF-2 to modulate γ-globin expression.
