Description:
The IKZF1 gene encodes a member of a family of haematopoietic zinc finger transcription factors. It is a transcription regulator of haematopoietic cell differentiation. It has been associated with histone-modifying and chromatin-remodeling activities and shown to target the PYR complex (SWI/SNF and NuRD components) to a region between the γ- and β-globin genes, promoting globin gene switching. It interacts with GATA-1, a major erythroid transcription factor, and enhances its binding to different regulatory regions across the β-globin gene locus. Ikaros has been associated with γ-globin gene silencing.
