Description
After the written regulation of Fight Against Hereditary Blood Disease was published in 2002, Hemoglobinopathy Prevention Program (HPP) was started in thirty-three provinces situated in the Thrace, Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean and South Eastern regions by MOH on May 8, 2003. Our hemoglobinopathy diagnostic center was licensed in 2004. Blood samples picked up from premarital screenings, school screenings, village screenings, hospitals and laboratories. Complete blood count and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were implemented for thalassemia test in blood samples. Informed consent received from the pair for premarital test and explain “this test is a screening test, definitive diagnosis is made by molecular analysis.” If couples have the carrier they are directed to prenatal diagnosis center.
