Description:
PDS5 is a cohesin-associated protein that exists in two isoforms in vertebrates, PDS5A and PDS5B. Cohesin is a multi-protein complex that associates with chromosomes and mediates cohesion of sister chromatids during S phase. The PDS5-like proteins appear to modulate the stability of the cohesin complex association with chromatin and facilitate accurate chromosomal segregation during cell division. This protein also plays a role in androgen-induced proliferative arrest in prostate cells and may be a tumor-suppressor gene. Polymorphisms in this gene associated with leg ulceration and osteonecrosis in sickle cell patients.
