Names

Common Name: MAP7 Type: Gene
Chromosome: 6 (NC_000006.12) Locus: N/A
HUGO Symbol: MAP7 Full Name: microtubule associated protein 7
Exons: 18 Introns: 17

Description:
MAP7 encodes a microtubule-associated protein, which, like other MAPs, is involved in the regulation of microtubule organization and stability. Microtubules are major components of the cytoskeleton and essential for many cellular functions, including cell shape and polarity, intracellular trafficking, cell motility and cell division. MAP7 is a retinoic acid-inducible gene that is predominantly expressed in cells of epithelial origin. The encoded protein is implicated in microtubule function required for spermatogenesis. Polymorphisms in this gene associated with HbF levels in sickle cell patients. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
