Description:
MicroRNAs (miRNAs), such as MIR126, are small, non-coding RNAs that play key roles in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by targeting specific mRNAs. miR-126 plays a role in regulating vascular integrity and has been associated with protective mechanisms against vascular damage. miR-126 expression was reduced in sickle cell disease (SCD) patients with leg ulcers, and was associated with an attenuating clinical profile, suggesting a protective role for sickle leg ulcer occurrence.
