GeneID: 387

Names

Common Name: ATF2 Type: Gene
Chromosome: 2 (NC_000002.12) Locus: NG_047045.1 (ATF2)
HUGO Symbol: ATF2 Full Name: activating transcription factor 2
Exons: 14 Introns: 13

Description:
The ATF2 gene encodes a transcription factor that is a member of the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) family of DNA binding proteins. ATF2 requires phosphorylation or association with viral proteins for transcriptional activity. A series of experiments demonstrated that ATF2 binds the Gγ-globin gene cAMP response element (G-CRE) to modulate Gγ-globin expression, likely through p38 MAPK signaling and G-CRE trans-activation. It forms heterodimers with CREB1 [GeneID: 385] and JUN [GeneID: 388] in erythroid cells. It seems to have a regulatory role in various stages of erythropoiesis.

Synonyms: HB16 , CREB2 , TREB7 , CREB-2 , CRE-BP1
