Names

Common Name: CDK6 Type: Gene
Chromosome: 7 (NC_000007.14) Locus: NG_015888.1 (CDK6)
HUGO Symbol: CDK6 Full Name: cyclin dependent kinase 6
Exons: 8 Introns: 7

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the CMGC family of serine/threonine protein kinases. This kinase is a catalytic subunit of the protein kinase complex that is important for cell cycle G1 phase progression and G1/S transition. CDK6 is a key player in the differentiation of a variety of cell types, including osteoclasts, astrocytes, thymocytes and myeloid cells. CDK6 kinase activity is required for erythroid cytoskeletal organization/dynamics with effects on erythrocyte lifespan. Genetic variance in CDK6 gene associated with haematological parameters (e.g., white blood cell count).
