Chromosome: 11 (NC_000011.10) Locus: NM_033135.4 (PDGFD)
HUGO Symbol: PDGFD Full Name: platelet derived growth factor D
Exons: 7 Introns: 6

Description:
This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) family of disulphide-bonded dimeric isoforms (e.g., PDGF-AA, PDGF-AB, PDGF-BB, PDGF-CC and PDGF-DD). These PDGFs are important for growth, survival and function in several types of connective tissue cell. PDGFD is secreted as a latent factor that requires activation by extracellular proteases. Genetic variance in PDGFD gene associated with episodes of pain in patients with sickle cell disease.
