Names

Common Name: TOX Type: Gene
Chromosome: 8 (NC_000008.11) Locus: NG_011993.1 (TOX)
HUGO Symbol: TOX Full Name: thymocyte selection associated high mobility group box
Exons: 9 Introns: 8

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene contains a HMG box DNA binding domain. The encoded protein binds to DNA in the minor groove and might control gene expression through changing local chromatin structure and modulating the formation of transcriptional regulatory complexes. This protein may function to regulate T-cell development. Polymorphisms in this gene were associated with HbF levels in cohorts with sickle cell anaemia, as well as with HbF response to hydroxyurea treatment.
