Names

Common Name: PDE7B Type: Gene
Chromosome: 6 (NC_000006.12) Locus: NG_011994.1 (PDE7B)
HUGO Symbol: PDE7B Full Name: Phosphodiesterase 7B
Exons: 13 Introns: 12

Description:
Phosphodiesterases (PDEs) regulate intracellular levels of cAMP and cGMP, cyclic nucleotides that play important roles as second messengers in multiple physiologic processes. PDE7B belongs to the large superfamily of PDEs, which can be distinguished by their structure, tissue expression, localization, substrate specificity, regulation, and sensitivity to PDE inhibitors. Polymorphisms in this gene were found to be strongly associated with the HbF response to hydroxyurea (HU) in sickle cell patients.
