Common Name: NEDD9 Type: Gene
Chromosome: 6 (NC_000006.12) Locus: N/A
HUGO Symbol: NEDD9 Full Name: neural precursor cell expressed, developmentally down-regulated 9
Exons: 8 Introns: 7

Description:
The gene product is a member of the CRK-associated substrate (Cas) family of scaffold proteins that play an integral role in the assembly of proteins at focal adhesion sites to regulate signalling pathways involved in multiple processes, such as cell migration, adhesion, invasion, and chemotaxis, apoptosis and the cell cycle. This protein has also been reported to have a role in cancer metastasis. A polymorphism in this gene associated with fetal haemoglobin levels in patients with sickle cell disease. NEDD9 is a 105-kDa protein with an amino-terminal SH3 domain, a large central region encompassing multiple SH2-binding sites, and a conserved carboxy-terminal domain. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
